Refugee camps are places set up to hold people and entire families who have been evacuated from a given place. Refugee camps in theory are intended also as places set up for emergencies caused by natural disasters, whether from earthquake, landslide or other. These are the reasons for which refugee camps are used more than any other, especially when the refugees are arriving from another country. Migrant camps instead are more specifically intended for those escaping for economic or humanitarian reasons.
Numerous refugee camps receive a high amount of media attention, with numerous regular reports of the refugees travelling the routes from Africa and Asia to Europe. Following the Mediterranean route to the one via the Balkans, in order to escape the battles of the Syrian conflict or from persecution by ISIS: in the last few years there has been hundreds of refugee camps set up in every Mediterranean country as well as many others.
