Germany

Germany is a European country with its capital in Berlin. It represents the main actor of the European Union for political, economic and demographic purposes. Following defeat in the two world wars, Germany was divided into the pro-western Federal German Republic and Democratic German Republic controlled by the Soviets until 1990, the year of reunification. Today, Berlin is central to the European framework it represents, and in fact, dominates. Since 2005 Germany has been governed by the Christian-democrat Angela Merkel, who became in the years of the financial crisis one of the most important people in the European Union.
