Angela Merkel

Angela Merkel (Hamburg, 1954) has since 2005 been the Chancellor of Germany having succeeded Helmut Kohl as the leader of the centrist Christian-democratic party (CDU), following her appointment as leader, she has guided the country through the reformation of Germany as a vital pillar of the European Union. Angela Merkel has supported a solid line in terms of public spending and has influenced, in the past decade, international politics in a profound way, becoming the Union’s most important figure of the beginning of the 21st century. She announced that she will be retiring from political life at the end of her fourth term which ends in 2021, as is mandatory.
