Chad

Chad is an African country, bordered by Libya, Niger, Sudan, Nigeria and the Central African Republic. Founded as a French colony, it achieved independence in 1960. Since then is has remained a country in which the official language is French. From 1975 to 1987, the country has been in a war against Libya started by Muammar Gheddafi. The conflict relates to a territorial dispute over the “Aozou Strip”, which is inhabited by a majority Arab population and is rich in raw mineral deposits. After a long and bloody war, Chad was at last able to succeed in repelling the Libyan soldiers. While the arabs or arab-like population living mainly in the north and east of the country are muslim, Chad’s majority Sara ethnic group are predominantly christian and live mostly in the south of the country. The capital is N’Djamena.
